Course Title: Family Health
Could you save a life? Will wellness and a healthy lifestyle
lead you to a more productive, satisfying future? Would you like a
high paying job in the expanding area of healthcare, including
medicine, human services, dietetics, diagnostic or therapeutic
health? Family Health, the beginning course in the healthcare
sequence, is offered grade 9 /12. Family Health explores health
issues from birth to death, including studies of: nutrition;
wellness; growth and development; global, mental, community and
reproductive health; health risks; and safety. Students use a
variety of learning strategies, technology, and applications to
explore careers and skills leading to introductory health-related
certifications. Washington Health and Fitness and other core
essential learnings and grade level expectations, Family &
Consumer Sciences standards, related National Health Care Skills
standards, required state curriculum and FCCLA - Family, Career,
and Community Leaders of America national programs will provide
frameworks for student learning and assessments. The course is a
desired pre-requisite for advanced courses in the scope and
sequence for Health Sciences and Human Service Career Strands.

Health Food, wellness practices, food shopping and preparation

Course Title: Sports Med/Athletic Trainer 1 &
2
Are you interested in physical therapy, occupational therapy,
health and medical services careers? In this two-part, 2 semester
advanced course of study, students grade 10 - 12 use athletic
training and therapeutic health services (Basic Core Health Skill
standards) while learning how to work with clients, use intra-team
communication, information gathering, treatment planning and
implementation, patient monitoring and evaluating patient status.
Health care skills standards, Washington essential learnings and
grade level expectations, and Skills-USA Vica national programs are
frameworks used for assessing student learnings.
Sports Med/Athletic Trainer 2 is a continuation course of Sports
Med/Athletic Trainer 1, for those with a B or better, and
interested in physical therapy, occupational therapy, health and
medical services careers.
