Course Title: Career Choices

This course focuses on the linkage between individual capabilities and needs and the job market. Includes instruction in the variety and scope of available employment, how to access job information and techniques of self analysis.

This course may be used when students are enrolled in Career Choices and a worksite (Internship) experience within the same period in a semester for a total of .5 credit.

Course Title: Workplace Literacy

The Workplace Literacy project is a course designed to help students attain the basic skills and knowledge necessary for preparing and planning for the world of work, improving social skills and attitudes that are acceptable for work, locating and applying for a job and performance on the job, developing decision-making and human relation skills necessary for employment, using city directories, and maps, completing job applications and resumes, and upgrading English and math skills for success on the job.

Course Title:  XIP Human Services I, XIP Human Services II

This nursing center/health care program gives students an opportunity to explore many of the jobs commonly found in a large health care facility.  Students are integrated into the daily routine of a nursing / retirement center by being paired with an employee who serves as a trainer and role model.

XIP Human Services II program activities include developing vocational skills, vocabulary, and routine job sequences and speed in the following areas: food and nutrition, laundry, housekeeping, physical therapy, general office skills, plant services, recreation therapy, purchasing, assisted living, and training in the Intergenerational Learning Center (adult and child day care).

Course Title: XIP Publishing Services I, XIP Publishing Services II

Students experience a variety of job skills. Tasks include: running an advanced copier, stapling on large stitching machines, cutting/trimming on a large paper cutter, use of a 25-page collating machine, and use of a folding machine. Students may also be instructed in the operation of a shrink wrap machine, paper drill, laminator, several different offset presses including a color press, and various bindery techniques.

In XIP Publishing Services II, students at the print shop learn the setup and layout of printing projects, including the use of a computer to incorporate graphic designs, transferring images with a plate maker, and then using the plate to print on an offset press.

The main emphasis is on general worker traits: attendance, following directions, productivity, stamina and attitude.
