Course Title: Environmental Horticulture 1, 2, 3, & 4

The student learns the scope of the industry, opportunities, and knowledge required to qualify for these opportunities. The student also learns about horticultural equipment, greenhouse design and use, and plan identification. Soil-water-plant relations are studied, and floral design is introduced. During the second year, the student specializes in the field of his/her choice in a two-hour per day, 360-hour program. The students will perform job-simulated tasks in greenhouse and/or nursery management, landscape design and maintenance, turf construction and management or retail sales. The emphasis in Environmental Horticulture 3 is landscape and landscape design. Included in this course is pruning techniques, safe use of pesticides, selection of plant materials and irrigation. Students will be exposed to basic plumbing and electrical maintenance. They will maintain nursery stock and use skills to market that stock. Plant identification emphasis will be on ornamental trees and shrubs and wetland plants. Individual projects in the horticulture field will be a focus for this course. The emphasis in Environmental Horticulture 4 is to produce, store, and deliver plant species in controlled indoor environments for wholesale, commercial, research, or other purposes.
