Ballard Maritime Academy

The BMA is a comprehensive four-year program combining Marine Science, Language Arts, and Social Studies around a Maritime theme, and featuring:

  • Rigorous, college-prep curriculum
  • Field trips and guest speakers
  • Orientation sail camp at SailSandPoint
  • Project-based learning
  • Internship in a local maritime industry
  • Annual adventure expeditions
  • Small student / adult ratio

The BMA Fleet

Students use the school’s boats to learn maintenance, repair and boat handling skills:

  • Jumezra is a 22-foot Pearson Electra sailboat, perfect for racing or cruising.
  • Cadet is a 36-foot wooden tugboat. She is a former logging tug with a single diesel engine, single screw, and classic lines.
