Goals of the Academy

  • To increase student’s knowledge and appreciation of travel, tourism, and hospitality and to have students understand the interrelationship between the economic system and these fields.
  • To make students aware of the career opportunities and to provide skills necessary to work in the travel, tourism and hospitality industry.
  • To provide on-the-job training to help students apply and extend what they have learned in class.
  • To provide teachers with seminars and on-the-job training to increase and update their knowledge about travel, tourism and hospitality.
  • To engage the expertise of qualified people familiar with the industry to assist with the development and evaluation of programs supportive of industry needs.
  • To develop a group of qualified people to lead and participate in the industry’s promising future.
  • To raise funds to support a financially related program in the public schools.

Unique Experiences for the Student

  • Participation in travel and tourism courses only available to Academy of Travel & Tourism member schools.
  • Preparation of resumes.
  • Job interview experience.
  • Six week paid summer internship (Students must apply and be interviewed for internships.)
  • On-the-job training.
  • College experience
  • Field Trips to industry specific businesses for travel, tourism and hospitality.
  • Seminars and guest speakers to discuss specialized topics in the field.
  • Annual Career Awareness Event
  • Senior Exchange Trip – financed through student fund raising for qualified Seniors
  • Special graduation ceremony
  • Access to scholarship funds

  • 2001-03 - 1 $1,000 Scholarship awarded yearly
  • 2004 - 2 scholarships: $4,000 Scholarship awarded for tuition costs; $1,000 Scholarship awarded for textbooks
  • 2005: 2 scholarships: $4,000 Scholarship awarded for tuition costs; $1,000 Scholarship awarded for textbooks from NMA Port of Seattle donation
  • 2006 3 scholarships: $4,000 Scholarship awarded for tuition; $1,000 Scholarship awarded for textbooks from NMA Port of Seattle donation; $ 500 Scholarship awarded for tuition
