Committee for Investing in Educational Excellence

Superintendent Raj Manhas appointed fourteen highly qualified and accomplished individuals to form the Superintendent's Community Advisory Committee on Investing for Educational Excellence. The committee collaborated for six months, from July 28, 2005 to February 2, 2006. Their final report was released on February 10, 2006 and can be viewed at final recommendations.

Collectively, committee members brought outstanding expertise in finance, budget management and leadership experience in large organizations; skill in marketing and communication; and experience in K-12 academic issues. All members had a keen interest in and commitment to the K-12 public education system and the students of Seattle.

The overall charge of the committee was to provide recommendations on the development and implementation of a short- and long-term financial plan/strategy to advance academic achievement and make every school a quality school. The Superintendent asked the committee to assess the district's current and long-term fiscal condition; identify ways to realign the district's budget to better support the academic vision; identify options to achieve long-term fiscal stability, including structural changes as well as ways to increase revenue; and to recommend strategies for communicating to and receiving input from the public on these topics.
