Waitlist

Declare preference

Parents can declare a preferred waitlist school that is other than their first choice school. Students may only be on one waitlist.

Current policy: If a student is not assigned to the first choice school, they are automatically put on a waitlist for that school.

Dissolve waitlists for all schools on October 1, 2005.

Current policy: Waitlists dissolve on November 1.

Tiebreaker

Integration

Suspend the use of the integration positive tiebreaker.

Current policy: The integration tiebreaker is suspended pending the outcome of a lawsuit. This action continues that suspension.

Mandatory mitigation

Queen Anne/Magnolia

Queen Anne and Magnolia residents who receive a 9th grade mandatory assignment, after selecting at least three schools, will be assigned to the comprehensive high school nearest their home.

This is a new provision.

Queen Anne and Magnolia residents who receive a 9th grade mandatory assignment, after selecting at least three schools, will be moved to the top of the waitlist of their highest choice comprehensive high school.

Sibling legacy

The sibling tiebreaker will apply for six years (similar to elementary schools) for all grade levels.

Current Policy: A student gets priority to attend a school that his/her sibling attends during the current school year and will continue to attend in the next school year.

Special Preference
Laurelhurst to Eckstein

Students from the Laurelhurst reference area applying to 6th grade at Eckstein will receive a special tiebreaker preference (after region and before distance)

Distance to TOPS

Distance will be applied as a tiebreaker to 20% of the open kindergarten seats after siblings have been assigned to TOPS.

This is a new provision.

Special Preference AE#2 & Orca toSalmon Bay

Continues the special preference for 5th grade AE#2 and Orca students to be assigned to sixth grade at Salmon Bay. (The tiebreaker applies after region and before lottery)

Current policy: This special program preference is set to expire this year and would not be in effect for 2005-2006.
