Hamilton Middle School Project Update
Hamilton's Renovation
Hamilton Question & Answer
Session
Thursday, July 24th, 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Lincoln High
School building, (4400 Interlake Avenue North)
Coming up in July
Now that Hamilton has moved into its temporary home at the
Lincoln High School building, the contractor will take over the
school site. Beginning in July temporary jobsite offices will be
set up at the back of the building, security fencing will be
installed (along with beginning 24-hour security), and
noise-monitoring equipment will be installed at the perimeter of
the site. The most visible early change will be the removal of the
existing windows to an offsite location where they will be rebuilt
before they are reinstalled - all or most of the window openings
will be covered in plywood during construction.
The Hamilton project manager will hold a question-and-answer
session Thursday, July 24th starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Lincoln
High School building, (4400 Interlake Avenue North) ? please come
and bring your questions about the construction project. Feel free
to just drop in for a specific question, if you'd like - the
project manager will be available until 8:00 p.m.
June held . . . one really big hug
On June 13th Hamilton staff and students linked arms around the
school for a big hug goodbye. About 600 people linked arms around
the building, an event memorialized in an aerial photograph taken
using a remote-controlled camera held aloft by a helium-filled
blimp. A photograph from the same location will be taken once each
month during construction as part of the construction records.
Also, King County Health inspectors have toured the building to
confirm that there is no existing rodent population in the building
(and therefore no reason for concern that there could be rodents
leaving the building when the demolition work begins). But, as an
additional precaution, Seattle Public Schools is maintaining bait
traps throughout the building.
August and after. . .
Salvageable items will be removed from the building by the
contractor prior to beginning demolition. Part of the rear of the
building will be removed, and all of the interior walls and
finishes will be removed. The primary route for traffic into and
out of the project site is expected to be north 42nd Street to
Wallingford Avenue. Emergency contact information for the
contractor and Seattle Public Schools will be posted on the site
and provided to near neighbors.
