Community shows its appreciation during Raj
Manhas Day
More than 300 community members applauded and celebrated the
legacy and accomplishments of Seattle Public Schools Superintendent
Raj Manhas at a special Rotary Club of Seattle meeting on May 9 at
McCaw Hall. Manhas announced he was leaving the School District at
the end of the school year. Rotary Club of Seattle declared May 9
"Raj Manhas Day" in his honor. |
Safety video nominated for Northwest
Regional Emmy Award
A Seattle Public Schools safety video, “
Emergency Management: Your Child’s Safety at
School,” produced by the Safety and Security Department,
has been nominated for the Northwest Regional Emmy Awards that will
be held on June 2. The 30-minute video outlines the vital roles
that parents, caregivers and the community play in helping schools
create a safe and secure environment for all students. It also
describes the district’s emergency preparedness plans, and
provides practical advice on how we can all work together to
provide for the best possible outcome in any emergency
situation. |

Seattle Public
School employees honored for work in diversity contracting
Silas Potter and Fred Stephens were honored for helping
women and minority contractors through the Historically
Underutilized Business (HUB) program at Seattle Public Schools.
Potter, the district’s HUB
coordinator was honored with the Walle Ralkowski Award for his
dedication and commitment to diversity in contracting. Stephens, the District’s
executive director of facilities, was also recognized with the
Crystal Eagle Award for economic development in relation to public
contracting.
