VISUAL ARTS SUPPORT MATERIALS

K-5 - SRA "Art Connections" & "How Artists See", Sets by Abbeville Press (Each elementary school library will get a set of "How Artists See").

NOTE: K-5 Please consider these materials to be "standard equipment" in each classroom.

Kindergarten - Teachers should receive for each teacher's classroom:

One Set of "How Artists See" (10 books) with 2 small signature teacher books

 

K-5 Visual Art Specialists - should receive:

"Art Connections" – an entire set of K-5 materials as listed above.
"How Artists See" – an entire set

We request that these materials be housed in the school library, and checked out by the Visual Art Specialist as needed. Many Specialists do not have a storage room or particular room to keep these materials.

One set of all the above listed materials was sent to each K-8 to be used by the visual art specialist in your building or shared with the 6th, 7th and 8th grade classes. We suggest that this set is housed in the library and checked out as needed.

Note: Some K-8 programs will be receiving the traditional middle school materials because of their large art programs and consistent use of visual art specialists. (Summit and TOPS)

6-8, Middle School Programs

Each visual art specialist and library will receive the following:

Sixth Grade – "Introducing Art"

  • Teacher’s Classroom Resources
 

Seventh Grade – "Exploring Art"

  • 15 student editions
  • Teacher’s Wraparound Edition

Eight Grade – "Understanding Art"

  • 15 student editions
  • Teacher’s Wraparound Edition
  • Teacher’s Classroom Resources
  • Fine Art Overhead Transparencies
 

9-12, High School Programs

Each visual art specialist and library has:

  • 1 sample student edition
  • 1 Teacher Wraparound Edition
  • Studio Activities
  • Fine Art Print Package
  • Fine Art Overhead Transparencies
 

"Art Talk"

  • 1 sample student edition
  • 1 Teacher Wraparound Edition
  • Studio Lessons
  • Fine Art Transparencies
 

A Set of Studio Textbooks: (includes one teacher and one student edition of each)

  • "Sculpture Technique Form & Content"

Additionally – "Photography" by David Rosendale, will be delivered later this year.

In February a new Web Site with the Standards for Visual Arts and sample lessons and lesson plan forms, will be available for teachers to use on the Inside Seattle Schools Web site. Additionally, watch the professional development on-line catalog offerings of classes that support teachers in the use of these wonderful new materials!
