Finding the Right Program for You

Listings of programs, events and activities in the Arts eNews does not equate to an endorsement by the Seattle Public Schools. We encourage all potential program participants to assess how each listing meets their needs, especially when establishing long term partnerships. If you would like assistance in matching right program for your school's needs, please feel to contact Community Arts Liaison Kathleen Allen kpallen@seattleschools.org. The listings below are submitted to SPS by the arts organizations and any questions about the programs, events or activities should be addressed directly to the organizations.

Each month we will also feature a partnership between an arts organization and a school or schools, which exemplifies a collaborative endeavor that enhances student and educator learning in the arts over the long-term.

Featured Partnership
Southeast Performing Arts Initiative

The goal of SE Performing Arts Initiative is to increase access to performing arts opportunities for secondary schools in Southeast Seattle. Currently this initiative is being implemented at Rainier Beach High School with a partnership with Broadway Bound, a youth performing arts organization. Broadway Bound has contracted with Seattle Theatre Group, which owns and operates the Paramount and Moore Theatres, to provide assistance with the technical theater aspects. The goal of the Initiative is that the performing arts program will be based at Rainier Beach High School but will expand in subsequent years to serve Aki Kurose and elementary feeder schools. Utilizing the state of the art RBHS Paul Robeson Performing Arts Theatre, Rainier Beach students are being trained in many aspects of musical theatre including: instrumental and vocal music, acting, dance, technical theatre, and costuming. Opportunities to learn and gain skills in performing arts occur during school and through after school and summer programming. In the future, interdisciplinary planning and instruction will ensure Rainier Beach's Performing Arts Program is authentically connected and supporting the school's academic priorities and that it is a school-wide initiative. Because of the broad scope of this project and interdisciplinary focus the SE Performing Arts Initiative will support learning and academic achievement for all students.

About Broadway Bound Children's Theatre
Broadway Bound Children's Theatre transforms the lives of children, ages 5 - 18 through active participation in theatre arts combining a fun and supportive atmosphere with professional standards. Children of all skill levels and backgrounds are challenged and supported while developing their mental, physical, emotional, social and creative potential through the joy and discipline of live theatre. Broadway Bound offers a season of full scale productions performed in professional theatres in Seattle, enrichment classes in drama, music, and dance, and a wide variety of summer camps, available in the University District and Rainier Beach. Broadway Bound makes every effort to make classes, productions, and performances available to every student who wants to participate.
