Message From the Archivist
Welcome to the Seattle Public Schools Archives Web Site.
Seattle School District No. 1 established an Archives and Records
Management Center in 1978 to preserve and provide access to student
records and other District records having administrative, legal,
historical and research value. The Center is located in the John
Stanford Center for Educational Excellence at 2445 3rd Avenue
South, and is open for research by appointment Monday, Thursday,
and Friday, 9:30 AM - 4:00 PM. Please call (206) 252-0795 or e-mail
etoews@seattleschools.org
to schedule an appointment.
The Archives serves a diverse clientele. Its many users include
students, teachers, administrators, PTSA and School Board Members
of the Seattle Public Schools, as well as writers, media feature
writers and reporters, scholars, artists, architects, alumni of the
Seattle Public Schools and genealogists.
This Web Site was designed primarily to serve as an introduction
and guide to potential users of the Seattle Public Schools
Archives. Our goal, however, was for it to be educational as well,
and to that end this site will feature mini-exhibits that will be
changed from time to time. Your comments and suggestions are
welcome.
Respectfully yours,
Eleanor Toews
Archivist, Seattle School District No. 1
