Enrollment Information

Students found eligible as academically gifted may continue to attend their current school, can apply to attend a school that offers an Advanced Learning Opportunities (ALO) program, or apply to attend a Spectrum program.

Students who prefer a Spectrum assignment, will need to enroll, even if currently enrolled in a building that offers Spectrum. Assignment to the Spectrum program is not guaranteed, and preference is given within clusters/regions.

Students found eligible as academically highly gifted may continue to attend their current school, can apply to attend a school that offers an Advanced Learning Opportunities (ALO) program, apply to attend a Spectrum program, or enroll in the Accelerated Progress Program.

Testing during the fall/winter testing cycle is for enrollment for the following school year only.

Students who remain enrolled in an ALO school, a Spectrum program, or the Accelerated Progress Program retain their eligibility through the eighth grade. This includes students rising from 5th to 6th grade.

Students who do not enroll in a program will need to retest the following school year in order to retain eligibility.

Students who apply for a program but are placed on a waitlist are given an extension but must enroll by the end of open enrollment for the next year or retest.

Enrollment Service Center locations, guidelines, and applications can be found on the Enrollment Services webpage. If your child is not currently enrolled in Seattle Public Schools, you must submit a complete enrollment registration.

See the Enrollment Services webpage for enrollment forms for newly-made eligible students.

Enrollment in the Accelerated Progress Program

Currently enrolled fifth- and eighth-grade Accelerated Progress Program (APP) students do not have to submit an application when advancing to the next grade; they will be assigned automatically to the regional APP site that serves their address. Eligible students in other grades who apply during Open Enrollment will be admitted into the program and assigned to their regional APP site. (Be sure to indicate on the application that it is for APP.)

Regional APP sites for the North, Northeast, Northwest, Queen Anne/Magnolia Clusters are:
Lowell, Hamilton, and Garfield.

Regional APP sites for the Central, South, Southeast, West Seattle North, West Seattle South Clusters are:
Thurgood Marshall, Washington, and Garfield.

Assignments for students who apply after Open Enrollment are based on space availability. APP students may apply for available seats at either site but preference is given to those within the region.

See the Enrollment Services webpage for enrollment forms.
