Essential Learning 1: ACTIVE LIFESTYLES - The student acquire knowledge and skills necessary to maintain an active life: movement, creativity, physical education and nutrition.

To meet this standard, the student will:

practice moving to different rhythms and beats

1.2 Safely participate in a variety of developmentally appropriate physical activities

describe hazards of unsafe play and list safe and unsafe play actions

distinguish between safe and unsafe play and explain the importance of playing safe

demonstrate safe play and knowledge of sports rules in play at school

select and use appropriate protective equipment for sports and play, and explain safety rules for sports played at school or at home

1.3 Understand the concepts of health related physical fitness and develop and monitor progress on personal fitness goals

explain the benefit of daily physical activity

define physical fitness and health

predict how physical activity will benefit self and others

1.4 Understand the relationship of nutrition and food nutrients to physical performance and body composition
