Summer Reading
Seattle Public Schools has created a series of reading lists for students who were in kindergarten through grade 12 this past year, 2002-2003. The goal is to encourage and promote reading. Each list contains approximately thirty books, and are only suggested titles.
The lists are designed to encourage Seattle Public School students to make reading a habit, and to raise both student's interest and level of reading. Each list contains fiction, nonfiction, and picture books. There is also a read-aloud list of picture books for all ages. A picture book is a unique and powerful literary form, and the picture book label does not imply a simple theme or easy reading level.
As you and your child enjoy reading, please remember the following:
Read out loud to your child
Read the same book and discuss it
Have your child read to you
Set aside family reading time
Take your child to the library or book store
Limit TV and video games
Enjoy!
