Seattle Public School's Academic Standards

Thank you for your interest in the Academic Standards, which guide teaching and learning in the Seattle Public Schools. These statements describe what students should know and be able to do during and as a result of their educational experiences. Grade-level benchmarks illustrate the progression of development from kindergarten through high school for each standard.

This website includes the standards and grade-level benchmarks for:

as well as other important documents. Each section begins with the Essential Academic Learning Requirement (EALR) set by Washington State.

The Developmental Stages of Reading and the Developmental Stages of Writing are previous curriculum documents provided as a reference. Grade-level benchmarks in reading and writing included alignment with these developmental stages.

Student Guides to Standards are also available on the website in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Tigrigna, Somali, Chinese, Cambodian, Tagalog, Lao, and Amharic.

The 2003 Summer Reading List is now available.
